3 Ways To Assess Multiple Job Offers And Choose The Job Thats Right For You - Money Under 30 3 Ways To Assess Multiple Job Offers And Choose The Job That's Right For You If youve found yourself in every job candidate’s dreambeing offered multiple positionsyoure probably feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety. On the one hand, you should feel greatâ€"people want you! On the other hand, you suddenly have to make a huge decision. It’s at this stage that  job candidates may even panic a little out of fear of making the wrong choice. As with most things in life, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to picking the best job for you. Everyone has different circumstances and values which affect the decisions they make in their lives. But, you can use our guidelines to help you decide how to assess multiple job offers and choose which  works best for you. Stop “should-ing” all over yourself As a recruiter, I had to counsel a lot of people who took jobs because they thought they should, only to realize down the road that it was a bad choice. Society is always telling us what we should do, but if you’re going to spend a third of your life working, you need to leave the “shoulds” at the door and instead focus on what you actually want to spend your time doing. Examine the financials If picking a job was just about money, then the decision would be a no-brainer. However, we know that money isn’t everything. Recent trends also show us that choosing a good fit for a job doesn’t  really have much to do with money at all. However, money is a reality we need to deal with in life. While it may not be the ultimate deciding factor in choosing a job, it would be naive to deny the role it plays. First, you need to examine your current financial situation. Ask yourself these questions: Are you single or do you have a family? Do you have a mortgage? What financial responsibilities do you have? What are your financial goals? All of these are going to play a major role in the kind of money you are looking for. Second, you need to realize that financials don’t just refer to your gross salary. It’s also important to look at the benefits. For example, the salary may not be great, but perhaps they have a killer health insurance plan that help cover you and the members of your family. It is extremely unlikely that any one company will have the perfect salary with the perfect benefits package. That’s why it’s important to get clear on what matters most to you and make your decision from there. Do the companys values align with your own? Lets be frank, it sucks to go to a job you hate every day. One way to avoid this is to evaluate the company’s values and see if theyre aligned  with your own. One common valueespecially among millennialsis flexibility. If this is really important to you then you’re going to want to make sure your job allows for it. For instance, maybe they allow telecommuting. Or, as is the case with one of my coaching clients, maybe the company values work-life balance and considers 35 hours/week to be full time.   If you don’t evaluate your values and choose a  job that is close to them, then you’re going to be looking for a new job sooner than you anticipated. Once again, it’s important to note that no company is perfect. Maybe they align with your values, but your financial situation requires you to take the job with the better benefits package. That’s okay because clearly you place a high value on security and are acting accordingly. The issue arises when people make decisions that go against what they find to be important in life.
