Affordable Work Clothes for Everyone on Any Budget

Reasonable Work Clothes for Everyone on Any Budget Building a work closet on a tight spending plan? Us, as well! Nothing harms more terrible than detecting the ideal Joan Holloway-style dress on the rack at a retail establishment, making up a fanciful outfit plan with the heels and jewelry you have at home, and afterward… looking at the sticker price to see that it'sway out of your value run. Fortunately, we've been playing the moderate design game for 10+ years (holler on the off chance that you began working the second you turned 16 since you thought it was an extraordinary thought) and make them shop astuteness to pass on. How about we burrow in:In the market for incredible jeans? Look no farther than Old Navy. Their work pants arrive in various fits and styles â€" the Pixie is our reliable top choice, alongside the Harper, which is somewhat looser. They arrive in an unending rainbow of hues, examples and surfaces. Velvet! Brocade! Botanical! Dark, khaki and naval force are consistently in stock on the off chance that you need t he essentials. What's more, with regards to estimating, Old Navy's jeans come to put it plainly, tall and an interminable exhibit of numerical sizes to fit about everybody.Admit it: Sometimes you become weary of work nuts and bolts and need something in vogue. That is the place LOFT comes in. The child sister to Anne Taylor, LOFT has alternatives for the lady who's keen on unsettles, ringer sleeves, appliques, zippers and anything loaded with fun. Dresses, skirts, heels, and other female pieces flourish. The costs may appear to be standard from the start, yet the styles change so much that the Clearance segment is continually topping off, and deals are continually occurring. On the off chance that you truly love to look out a decent arrangement, snatch your companions and head to a LOFT Outlet store at your closest outlet mall. It's constantly been a test to discover larger size workwear at a moderate cost. Yet, numerous brands are beginning to insightful up and get in the awe-inspir ing young lady game. A valid example: Ashley Stewart. This place has the patterns you need, cut impeccably for groups of every kind imaginable. Think shirts you don't need to change and dresses that hit at the correct lengthâ€"yet at Ashley Stewart, they commend bodies, as opposed to conceal them. Target, as well, has ventured up in the larger size office, presently offering the ground breaking Ava Viv. These aren't simply greater releases of their typical garments. They are planned with greater bodies in mind. There are times when a jacket = moment certainty. For those days, there's J. Group Factory. The lower-valued cousin of preppy J. Group, the Factory is an outlet-type online store brimming with work nuts and bolts. Coats, pants, cardigans, sacks, and pads can be found at average costs. In the event that you'd preferably shop face to face, look at their physical rendition, J. Team Mercantile. This is an absolute necessity shop in case you're keen on gender ambiguous looks. Thin j eans, button-up shirts and polos would all be able to be found here. You pick whether you need to include the shimmering neckband or not.OK, OK, I'll let it be known… I'm aproud Maxxinistas. For purchasing profession garments on a passage level financial plan, there is no spot more amusing to shop than TJ Maxx, the straightforward, nitty gritty spot to get some genuine arrangements. Here you'll discover the brands you need at the value point you need. Columns and lines of pullovers, pull-on work jeans, loafers and even reasonable shapewear to put under each one of those move dresses you'll get from J. Group Factory. Make certain to inquire regularly, in light of the fact that product changes everyday relying upon the arrangements made sure about by the nearby store. If you're attempting to get it and wouldn't fret going fishing on the web, there are a few alternatives out there for you. Poshmark is a fan most loved for the individuals who have explicit brands and styles at the top o f the priority list. It represents considerable authority in delicately utilized garments that normally look and fit like new. ASOS, Lulus and HM are three others on the lower-estimated end where you can discover great nuts and bolts â€" think long-sleeve shirts, sweaters and fundamental pads. Watch out, however. Those retailers are somewhat more quick design, so quality is regularly lost for the privilege price.Of course, if the spending battle is genuine, there's forever your neighborhood Goodwill, Buffalo Exchange, St. Vincent de Paul or the Salvation Army. For exceptional retro style, a vintage store will have what you need, at a cost. I would adhere to conventional second hand shops, carport deals and apparel trades. Some ofmy most loved work outfits have been gained from dress trades we facilitated… with other ladies from the workplace! It's an extraordinary method to fabricate office kinships and assemble a work closet at the equivalent time.Though it may appear to be diffi cult to create a work closet for the activity you need as opposed to the one you as of now have, you can do it! Keep in mind, despite the fact that the brand may matter to you, nobody else will really take note. All closets have privileged insights. Now and again it's a shockingly adorable duster from Walmart. Or on the other hand a retro-cool A-line skirt from the rear of your mother's storage room. A reversible artificial calfskin $10 carry from the dollar store? Hello, on the off chance that anyone asks, simply state it's veggie lover and offer no further subtleties. You got this. And in the event that you need to get the hang of everything there is to think about business easygoing for ladies, we got you.

Have a Good and Successful Music Promotion Campaign

Have a Good and Successful Music Promotion Campaign Have a Good and Successful Music Promotion Campaign Employing a music advertising organization to advance your venture is a positive advance, however you despite everything should be proactive, both when composing the check. Its insufficient to kick back and hold on to get acclaimed. There are no ensures that even the best PR crusade will be fruitful, yet various moves you make or neglect to take can help-or hurt-your battle. Begin by investigating accessible firms and posing the correct inquiries. What different specialists accomplish they work for, what are their examples of overcoming adversity, how would they want to impart, and so on. To get all the more value for your money once youve settled on a firm, remember a few hints. Giving Needed Materials Give the PR firm precisely what it requests. A solicitation for 50 special CDs out of their gem cases should result in precisely that. Furnishing 100 duplicates in gem cases with full liner notes since you figured it would be better just makes more work for the agents taking care of your battle. They demand the things they requirement for an explanation, so its best to concede to their skill. That is the reason youre paying them. On the off chance that your PR structure requests new photographs, for you to refresh your site, or whatever else, the sooner you do it, the sooner they can get the opportunity to work. Giving Updates Booked another show? Tell your PR organization. Choose to discharge a solitary? Tell your PR organization. Got your companion at the neighborhood paper to compose an audit? Tell your PR organization. Dont expect agents from your PR firm to stay aware of your news by means of your site, pamphlet, informal communication stage, or whatever else. Regardless of the amount they like your music, you cannot speak with them like they are your fans. They should be the first to realize when something occurs so they can utilize it to advance your music thus they arent confounded when a columnist educates them about some news they werent mindful of. Avoiding the Way In the event that you have an individual relationship with somebody in the news media and you figure an email from you would be better than an email from your PR organization, at that point tell your PR organization that you will cover that individual so they dont. Something else, dont attempt to hop in the blend, catch up with individuals that your PR organization has drawn nearer about your task, or whatever else. Let the firm youve recruited start to lead the pack on sending public statements and making different contacts. Youre paying your PR firm to carry out a responsibility. You have to avoid the way and let them do it. Trust that they are the specialists with the best contacts and demonstrated systems that work. Columnists get huge amounts of messages and calls day by day from individuals searching for inclusion or audits. It doesnt help to bend over. An email from you when your PR organization as of now has connected will quite often be confounding, irritating, and adverse to your odds of getting the inclusion you need. Best case scenario, youll put the writer and the PR organization in an unbalanced position. Even from a pessimistic standpoint, youll irritate somebody so much youll assist them with choosing for the last time to not expound on you. Being Available Nothing is more regrettable for a PR organization than to set up a meeting for one of their customers and afterward to get a call from the essayist that nobody picked up the telephone or responded to the email questions or appeared for the meeting. You may not get one more opportunity, so on the off chance that you tell your PR organization you can accessible at a specific time, do it. Be adaptable. On the off chance that the PR organization is relied upon to book interviews or some other appearances, be as pleasing with your time as you can. Its OK to have certain occasions that are beyond reach or to have different responsibilities however impart about your timetable with the delegates from your PR firm so they know when they can book you with certainty. Being Patient and Realistic PR crusades can move gradually, and some may wind up not moving by any stretch of the imagination. Conceptualizing about new methodologies with your PR organization is something to be thankful for. Be that as it may, make sure to be quiet and reasonable about how your battle is going along. Any number of variables, including the season of the battle, different discharges or craftsmen youre rivaling, how early you began your crusade, and whether this is your first enormous PR push can influence the achievement and speed of accomplishment of your battle. Youll have a much smoother relationship with your PR organization on the off chance that you work with them to build up an arrangement to attempt to handle your deterrents as opposed to anticipating that them should mysteriously cause your snags to vanish.

When Is A Status Symbol An Investment Tool

When Is A Status Symbol An Investment Tool Individuals judge on appearances. It would be decent in the event that they didn't, however actually they do. That is the reason the manner in which your resume looks on the page is a significant factor of resume composing. Its one thing we search for when requested to study a resume. You could have the real factors composed precisely and still be dismissed in light of the fact that the peruser is searching for something you are ignorant concerning. An ongoing blog entry about the rationale of moronic poor people is springing up in various zones of the web. Creator Tressie M Cottom makes some admirable sentiments about the reasons somebody would spend a ton of cash on a thing of attire or an extra, and it isnt to feel great it is to make themselves adequate and access a restricted arrangement of remunerations conceded upon bunch participation. Much of the time, this objective is a vocation that will improve their lives and the lives of their family. She says it isnt that needy individuals are dumb. Or maybe, it is that they are oblivious in regards to the subtleties in closet determination flagging you fit into the club. To get in, you must be satisfactory to the watchman and, on account of work, that guard is the questioner. Ms. Cottom refers to occasions where occupations were allowed dependent on closet decisions. She likewise has participated in interviews where a competitor was dismissed for clothing regarded unacceptable for the position. It appears to be discretionary to dismiss somebody dependent on a shirt, yet the very much qualified activity candidate didn't have a clue what the meeting VPs thought of appropriate was. Much the same as a resume can have all the secret sauce without the best introduction, you can be a solid match for an occupation and botch the opportunity to demonstrate it since you didnt examine the unwritten garments code in that specific work environment. How would you find this unwritten apparel code and discover which superficial point of interest may be a wise venture? Discover as much as possible about the organization and the board. Take a gander at their site and the photos of their staff. Converse with individuals who work there. What does the executives wear? Which marks? What styles? Except if this is an exceptionally easygoing organization, go business formal, preservationist, and costly. You dont need to really go through the cash for the maximum (search for deals and transfer shops), however your meeting outfit ought to be the best in your closet. You are attempting to make sense of the things that will intrigue. Shallow, possibly, yet on the off chance that a silk attach with your suit or a planner pack will flag you can fit into their club and land that position, it is a speculation.

Across 3,000 U.S. huge organizations, ladies just hold 15% of board seats. It doesn't enable that these meeting rooms to can be young men's clubs. It was just a year ago that a Uber board part made the misogynist joke of saying that more ladies on its board would bring about more talking. At the rate we're going, these American organizations won't arrive at sexual orientation equality until 2055. To speed things along, another California charge, SB 826, was presented. It would drive open organizations headquartered in California to have in any event one lady on its governing body before the following year's over, or chance getting a heavy fine. By 2021, organizations with at least six executives, would need to have in any event three of these board seats be filled by women. The charge refers to examine that finds that having more ladies on sheets makes a situation where ladies are no longe r observed as pariahs and can impact the substance and procedure of board conversations more substantially.Boards are the place the arrangement choices are made about how an organization works, State Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, the bill's creator, told the Sacramento Business Journal. This is one of the last esteemed gentleman fiefdoms, and we have to accomplish something intense about it.New California charge needs to compel every single male board to include womenIf the proposed enactment goes in the state get together in August, California would turn into the principal state in America to utilize government strain to get meeting room sex equality. It would not be the primary spot on the planet, notwithstanding. California would join other European countries that have just attempted this course. In 2011, France passed a law requiring certain organizations to fill in any event 40% of board seats with ladies. From that point forward, the nearness of ladies on sheets dramatically incre ased, and ladies make up 43% of board seats. Before America joins Europe, it should beat some wild reaction to the bill. California's Chamber of Commerce, for instance, said it was illegal and damaged men's privileges: If there are two qualified possibility for a chief position, one male and one female, SB 826 would require the organization to pick the female competitor and deny the male applicant the position, the support bunch regretted in a letter.Supporters to the bill like Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins are standing firm even with opposition. Why is it so difficult for us to attempt to present the defense that ladies in administration and ladies on corporate loads up could positively affect your primary concern? Atkins said on the Senate floor about pushback. The bill additionally started warmed discussion among individuals from Los Angeles Times editorial load up about its legitimateness, the repercussions it would have for California business, and in the event that it was sufficient to address foundational segregation. Perhaps it's excessively nutty in any event, for California, possibly not. In any case, useful for Jackson and Atkins, the main female pioneer of the California Senate, for causing us to go up against this gross difference. article board member Mariel Garza closed.

The most effective method to Negotiate Salary The most effective method to Negotiate Salary For the vast majority, discussing cash is, well, downright unbalanced. Regardless of whether its among companions, family, or colleagues, the greater part of us would prefer the theme be maintained a strategic distance from totally. There is one time when discussing compensation can (and should) be talked about. When youre during the time spent tolerating a new position, this discussion can't be brushed far from anyone's regular field of vision, as troublesome as it might be. Here are a few hints weve learned en route, just as master exhortation from Career Advisor Bob McIntosh, CPRW, on how (and when) to arrange compensation. Whento Negotiate Salary Timing is everything. Some portion of the test of arranging pay is knowing when the fitting time is to do as such. Lets start with when its notappropriate to talk compensation during the recruiting procedure: On your resumeDuring the underlying meeting/telephone meet (except if asked)After youve acknowledged the activity That is a great deal of times when not to arrange compensation, huh? Things being what they are, when would it be a good idea for you to arrange pay? Just when the compensation question is asked, in all probability during a phone meet, should an applicant talk pay, McIntosh lets us know. Never be the first to bring it up. Discussing advantages can likewise be understood as unseemly. You need the business to see that youre intrigued by the activity, not simply the compensation. Knowing Your Worth How would you truly realize the amount you ought to request? McIntosh proposes competitors do their examination utilizing destinations like Salary.com, PayScale, and Glassdoor, however cautions that various organizations put an alternate an incentive on positions. The most ideal approach to figure out what a business can manage the cost of is by chatting with somebody inside the organization. This individual can give more understanding than a compensation mini-computer, McIntosh says. On the off chance that you dont by and by know somebody at the organization, check your LinkedIn associations or have a go at making another association. You can send a neighborly message inquiring as to whether the range you have as a top priority is fitting. While it might be enticing, dont undercut yourself just to get an edge on the opposition. Correspondingly, dont acknowledge the principal offer youre offered just to abstain from looking insatiable. Indeed, neglecting to arrange can really make you look terrible as an up-and-comer. Dont undercut yourself just to get an edgeJOBSCAN McIntosh says, Employers expect work possibility to arrange compensation, so competitors shouldn't stress over seeming covetous. At times, businesses might be disillusioned if up-and-comers don't arrange, particularly if the activity calls for arranging aptitudes. That doesnt mean you ought to request multiple times the first offer or many thousands more than your partners, McIntosh clarifies. You despite everything should be reasonable and conscious of the employing chief. Step by step instructions to Negotiate Salary Compensation exchange happens in various manners. It may happen eye to eye with an employing supervisor in the meeting, or it can happen by means of telephone or email. While every situation has its advantages and disadvantages, your capacity to haggle certainly shouldnt change. At the point when the topic of compensation at long last comes up, McIntosh recommends first asking the business what run they have at the top of the priority list. Regularly, they will let you know. In the event that they dont give a range, that is the point at which you can disclose to them the range you thought of dependent on the exploration you did earlier. Its abnormal for a business to offer more than your recommended run, or to try and meet you at the highest point of your range, so be certain youre OK with the numbers you give. What's more, recall, if youre awkward with the manner in which the arrangement is going, or in the event that they are offering substantially less than you accept is suitable, its consistently adequate to request some an opportunity to think about the offer.

The first way is to use bullet points that make it easy to understand and that can be read easily. You don't have to be original in the way you describe your qualifi cations and your accomplishments, just list them all in chronological order. You can also add in descriptions of your accomplishments. If you really want to take your chances with the employer, use the third person and describe what you feel you would bring to the company. You can also give the employer a sense of the type of employee you are. You can explain what you do in layman's terms that show how smart you are for someone to hire you. Another thing to mention is that you should tailor your resume to the position you are applying for so that it will be easier for the employer to find you.Guidelines for writing a resume objective are the key to getting the job you want. Choosing a field of study in college - which way to go

Choosing a field of study in college - which way to go Home career Choosing a field of study in college which way to go?careerChoosing a field of study in college which way to go?By Loveleen Chaudhari - September 3, 201810490Facebook Tumblr Mix VK LINE Viber “College is the reward for surviving high school.” â€" Judd Apatow  Or at least in your case if you are from India, the 12th Grade, or 12th standard. If you have dealt with the pressures of going through Board Exams, and possibly Entrance Exams (Hello there, fellow science student!) and you are on the proverbial path to the next stage of life after school, you may now be dealing with the dilemma of arriving at the crossroads, not knowing which path to take or which way to go.In a nutshell, you have pretty much little to no idea what field of study you wish to pursue in college.A student graduating from school in the near future will look to his or her nearest and dearest ones for advice on what to do next. (Or may seek help from peers.) Either way, the student is greeted wit h an answer that comes in droves, which seems akin to an act of ‘swarming’, a practice (rendered pretty much useless, albeit more harmful in the long run) where the prospective college student is given ‘sound career advice’ by supposedly well-meaning relatives. These relatives range from being close to never have talked to the said person very much in their entire lives. Parents of the student (mostly Indian parents), conform to the ideas and opinions given by the others as it is deemed much safer to do so. They then completely disregard what their child would like to do further. The student may have an interest or passion for delving into a rather unorthodox field of study (compared to the Indian societal standards of Medicine and Engineering), and will be scorned by parents and acquaintances alike, thus subjugating him or her and forcing them into a field they do not prefer or even dislike.Steve Wozniak, co-founder of the tech-giant Apple, has also observed this problem in India, and stated so at  the  ET Global Business Summit  in New Delhi.Steve Wozniak. (Courtesy: Google Images)  â€œThe culture here is one of success based upon academic excellence, studying, learning, practicing and having a good job and a great life. For upper India, not the lower. I see two India(s). That’s a lot like Singapore study, study, work hard and you get an MBA, you will have a Mercedes but where is the creativity? The creativity gets left out when your behaviour is too predictable and structured, everyone is similar. Look at a small country like New Zealand, the writers, singers, athletes; it’s a whole different world.”India being a country that has only fairly recently gained independence (compared to the other developed countries), has much to learn on this front. Every year, institutes in India churn out a multitude of Doctors, Engineers and the like, only to have them later pursue careers in other fields of interest. This needs to change, as it also adds the b urden of repaying financial debts, in addition to explaining a change of field to the family. What needs to be done? This will leave a bitter taste in every student’s mouth, but the presence of actual job opportunities in the field of interest are very necessary and must be given consideration. If absent, it renders the process of getting a college degree irrelevant. This heavily applies to fields of interest such as music, arts, and even more so to others such as Human History (people are known to even obtain PhDs in such subjects). In a country like India, career opportunities in these fields are very much in the rudimentary stages at present (they may develop more in the future). But pursuing a degree in such fields in the hopes that career opportunities may arise in the future is a very risky business indeed! Moreover, in a country like India, there is no lack of competition. Even today (though numbers are slowly decreasing), hordes of 12th standard pass-outs pursue Engineering. This increases the competition, and lowers the chances of obtaining a job after graduation. A student pursuing it needs to be serious and passionate about getting into the field. If Engineering (or any field, for that matter) is a something you are disinterested in, stand up to your parents and let them know. You will be doing them (and yourself even more) a huge favour. (Although if Engineering is your field of interest, you will need to work harder and obtain much more than just a stellar academic record to get a job after you graduate!)Do not doubt the power of sound advice. Yes, it is true that most advice for choosing your field of interest may seem redundant, especially if you are headstrong. Do listen to people’s advice, but take it with a grain of salt. Most people offer advice based on their own life experiences, and less so on whether things are right or wrong.Read information on the Internet about your field of interest in which you plan to study, and find out about the current job opportunities, the quality of the institutes providing the education (this is very important), and also the overall cost. Do remember that your parents are funding your education, and try not to go about it in a casual manner. If your field of interest entails something similar to a hobby, such as music or acting, do not give it up. If you pursue a career in another field, do indulge in your interests during your spare time. Joining a college group pertaining to such activities may help.Online (or offline) counselling sessions for choosing your preferred field of study may also be beneficial.Lastly, if a parent is reading this article, please try to be supportive in your child’s future endeavours. If he or she wishes to pursue a degree in a field that may not relate to Medicine or Engineering, do not fret (unless the supposed field is . Societal opinions do not matter in this. It will only bolster your child’s confidence if you decide to support them in their decisio n.TAGScareer optioncollegeEducation

JibberJobber Featured in NYC News

JibberJobber Featured in NYC News JibberJobber was recently featured on channel 4, NBC primetime news in New York City! How cool is that? Sree Sreenivasan does a regular tech spotlight in this article youll notice that they did not go in alphabetical order and listed JibberJobber as first (first!!), even before superstars in the employment space like LinkedIn (maybe someone at LinkedIn should write a book called Im on JibberJobber Now What??? :p) and SimplyHired. Other interesting points: The name JibberJobber Ive heard a handful of times over the last 18 months from people that dont like the name JibberJobber. But every time I hear it on a podcast, or radio, and now TV, people always talk about it. I *love* how the reporter doesnt miss the opportunity to say that she loves the name (Thanks Tige, for the name!) The focus from Sree it was so interesting to me that Sree focused on the resume aspect of JibberJobber. When I talk about JibberJobber I might say and use it to track where you send your resumes but I usually dont go on from there. I focus on overall relationship management as well as tracking target companies, which are two things that you do whether you are in a job search or not. Building on that idea, it amazes me when someone gives a huge compliment on something that I thought was a cute addition, but not the core of the product like the simple expense tracker. The more I do the webinars (the next one is tomorrow morning, come if you can!) the more I realize how big JibberJobber really is. Really fun website Sree says JibberJobber dot com is a really fun website and its really nice and easy to use. These are two other things that I dont really talk about, but it sure sounds good to me What they chose to show Even with just about 10 seconds of talking about it, and only showing screens that are not part of the logged in section, there were over a hundred signups from New York and New Jersey hope this helps in your job search! In the video they didnt mention LinkedIn but they did mention MyAmiko and Alumwire. The video looks like it wraps up with SimplyHired so how did LinkedIn make it on the writeup? Here is a link to the video, or click on the image below: Thanks for highlighting us, Sree! The Importance of a Placement Work Experience University of Manchester Careers Blog

The Importance of a Placement Work Experience University of Manchester Careers Blog Guest Blogger Post Belinda Mbuthia, Health Check Analyst UKI Systems Currency Team, IBM University of Manchester Student. Hard to believe that it was just the other day that I was wondering what scheme to apply for, what company or even whether I should take the year out to get some work experience. Now almost half-way through with my placement at IBM and I can confidently say that doing a placement was one of the best decisions I have ever made! So why do a placement? The opportunities to develop your skills (soft or technical) are numerous. Its finally a chance for you to experience how the industry actually works and to apply some of that knowledge gained at university to real-life situations at the work-place. The networking opportunities are also invaluable. Making the right contacts will prove fruitful when searching for jobs after you graduate. Lastly, taking on actual responsibility that affects the performance of the business is just the preparation you need to start your career. What is my role at IBM? I am an IT placement student on the Leading to Africa (L2A) scheme at IBM currently based at South Bank, London. My daily role is as a health check analyst supporting different accounts in the Global Technology Services (GTS) business unit. Being on the L2A scheme allows one to take part in events, virtual conferences, webinars and basically activities aimed at increasing your knowledge of IBMs strategy in Africa and different projects taking place in Africa. The scheme is for students who are interested in working in Africa after they graduate. For more information about the program, checkout the QA blog. My experience at IBM: My time at IBM has been invaluable. I have been able to represent the company at conferences where a head of state, ministers and other delegates were in attendance, collaborate with other employees on different projects, take on extra responsibilities and even take up different modules to develop my skills. All these in a span of only five months! I definitely look forward to the rest of my placement! Tips when applying for a placement: Complete the application as early as possible This gives you a higher chance of getting the role that you want before they fill up. -Give evidence to support your skills mentioned in the application form e.g. projects, positions of responsibility in societies -Show your passion for the company and role during interviews and assessment centres -Lastly, prepare well. This applies to all levels of the application process. All International Internships Student blogs graduate placement work experience

Countdown till Personal Branding Magazine issue 2 tomorrow [sneak preview] - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Countdown till Personal Branding Magazine issue 2 tomorrow [sneak preview] - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career In light of the 2nd issue of Personal Branding Magazine, which debuts tomorrow, I have included part of my interview with Philip Rosedale, founder of Second Life. The interview got A LOT more interesting than what you see below. I truly appreciate Philips enthusiasm with personal branding and how Second Life has given the world a chance to experience personal branding from an interactive perspective. If you havent already subscribed, make sure you do, so that you can receive your copy tomorrow. This issue has been named the bible of personal branding. Me: Philip, how did you come up with the idea for Second Life? Do you actually have your own avatar in Second Life? Philip Rosedale: As a kid I was always modifying the world around me, like growing up I did electronics from like the fourth grade, and I was pretty comfortable with power tools and making things and I studied physics, ultimately in college (at the University of California, San Diego). I always felt that using computers to digitally simulate a world, to simulate the physics of reality was the ultimate thing you wanted to use computers for. And if you could use networking obviously one computer couldnt do that well, but a lot of computers could. I left RealNetworks (in 1999) and started working on it at the very moment I thought it was possible. Yes I have my own avatar, and I regularly go into Second Life to interact and hold “town hall” meetings and office hours with residents. Want more? Subscribe to Personal Branding Magazine to receive issue 2 tomorrow! Tagged: Todd Defren, Darren Rowse, Chris Brogan, Jeremiah Owyang, John Moore, Brian Solis, Steve Rubel

Book review Inside Apple by Adam Lashinsky - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog

Book review Inside Apple by Adam Lashinsky - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog I just finished reading Inside Apple by Adam Lashinsky and I was struck by two observations: 1: Apple gets a lot of things exactly right and some other things exactly wrong. Ie- the design-driven development, the commitment to making great products and the pride their employees can take in contributing to that are all fantastic. On the other hand, Apples culture of fear, paranoia and mistrust really comes through in the book. Check out this article about Apples secret police. I think Apple could be even more successful (hard as that is to imagine) without the paranoia and bad behavior shown in the book. However, I think some people will conclude that Apple are assholes and Apple is successful. Being an asshole makes you successful. 2: The Apple culture is completely at odds with the Apple brand. The Apple brand is about individuality and freedom of expression. The Apple culture is about secrecy, uniformity and doing what youre told. Is that duality sustainable in the long rung? I dont think so. Finally, I simply cant figure out from the book if Apple is a happy or unhappy workplace. Its clear that employee happiness was certainly never a top priority for Steve Jobs and other top execs. On the other hand, their pride in their products and in working for Jobss vision makes them happy. In any case, read the book it rocks. Thanks for visiting my blog. Im an Honest Scrap!

Im an Honest Scrap! Yay hooray another award! Its my second, and boy is it an awesome one. Kristin from Discover: Interior Design nominated me as an Honest Scrap! The award isnt defined, per se, but it makes me think Im like Christian Bale in Newsies, earning an honest nickel and singing along the way. Thanks so much, Kristen! Ill look for my newsboy cap in the mail ?? In order to accept my award, I have to share 10 honest things about myself. Are we scared yet? 1 2. Both of my pinkies are bent. I was born that way, with my pinkies touching my palms, but I had surgery when I was in first grade to correct it. The cast went all the way around my hand, because of that, I never learned how to hold a pen correctly. So, I have bent pinkies (which never got all-the-way straight, but are only noticed by dance/yoga teachers) hold my pen/pencil weird. This totally counts as two things. 3. Along the lines of weird things I do, I learned how to whistle by blowing in. Now that Im trying to be a better/louder whistler, Im working on blowing out. Insert your own Thats what she said joke here. 4. Oh, and along the lines of more weird things I do, I snap by taking my thumb and essentially putting it behind my knuckle of my second finger. I know you dont understand. Im the only one who does it. But man, does it work! 5. The first concert I ever went to was Debbie Gibson at Radio City Music Hall in June 1988. I sat in the 4th row with my Mom ( my Debbie Gibson hat) got to touch her hand. I still have the T shirt from the concert, its one of my most treasured possessions. So soft! What 10 year old girl from Long Island wouldnt   want to be her? Photo via Ape Culture 6. My mother I have an ongoing argument as to who asked who if I wanted a perm. I have a distinct memory of being in middle school and her saying, Do you want to get a perm? while she swears that I asked her for it. Well, someones gotta take the blame! No wonder I didnt have a date to the 8th grade dance. And no, you can not, will not, wont not ever see a photo. 7. I have a terrible sense of direction. So terrible, in fact, that I joke that North is always when I go straight ahead, West is when I make a left turn (but when I straighten out Im going North again), East is when I make a right turn (but when I straighten out Im going North again), South is when I go in reverse. This might be a big reason why I rarely drive. 8. Luke I have a Nerd Corner in our apartment. On one wall is a framed Star Wars poster, cattycorner to it is a bunch of signed, framed Playbills. Im not sure if this set-up will move with us to our new home, but it represents us to a T. 9. I took piano lessons for about 6 years, but can not sit down a play a single thing. I never got that whole memorizing music thing. 10. I called the bridesmaids at my wedding bridesbabes, because they were not my maids! And they were totally babes. See? Stunningly amazing photo by Kate Leigh. I now hereby nominate the following blogs as Honest Scraps: Nicole J Butler Warrior Girl, Youre a Warrior Mama Now Coach Cassandra Rae Hit Runners OwningPink More in You CreateGirl As nominees, you must now: Say thanks and give a link to the presenter of the award. (Thats me!) Share “10 Honest Things” about yourself. Present this award to 7 others whose blogs you find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged you. Tell those 7 people they’ve been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving. Thanks again to Kristin for making me an Newsie Honest Scrap!
